The table grapes in Moldova this year may arrive on the market at their usual time

Given the long and rainy spring and relatively cool beginning of summer, this year is characterized by a ten-day – two weeks delay in the ripening of most berries and fruits. However, according to some experts from the associations of winegrowers, the grape harvest in 2021 may ripen close to its usual terms. That is, table grapes may be actively become available on the market in mid-September.

The flowering in the vineyards was ten to twelve days late. However, despite rains, quite hot weather established in the country since the end of June. Thanks to this, producers note the rapid growth of bunches and berries. Some of them suggest that if in July-August most of the daytime temperature is about +30 degrees Celsius and above, some of the open-field vineyards in the southern part of the country will have time to get the sum of temperatures required for the harvest ripening in the first month of autumn.

It is notable that there was a sharp transition “from winter to summer” in the two previous years in Moldova and there was no actual spring. Therefore, grapes and many other fruit crops ripened earlier. According to experts, this year is similar to a normal one in terms of weather, as it was before the weather anomalies that started in the second half of the 2000s.
