Uzbekistan exported a record volume of beetroot in April 2022

In mid-April 2022, EastFruit wrote about the start of the export season of beetroot from Uzbekistan. Exports from the southernmost region of the country, Surkhandarya region, started in the first days of April.

A little more than a month has passed since the exports of beetroots of the new crop started, and the results of the first month of the season indicate a successful start. In April 2022, Uzbekistan exported a record volume for the same period over the past 5 years. According to official statistics, the volume of table beet exports in April 2022 amounted to 5 100 tonnes, which is 4.3 times more than in the same period last year.

However, table beet exports in April 2021 were the lowest compared to exports in the same period of 2018-2021. Nevertheless, even if compared with the volumes in April 2018-2020, when about 3 000-3 500 tonnes of beetroot were exported, the results of April 2022 are about 1.5 times higher.

The volume of table beet exports in January-April 2022 amounted to 8 200 tonnes, which is 78% more than in the same period in 2021 and almost corresponds to the volume of exports in the same months of 2020.

In total, Uzbekistan exported 13 200 tonnes of beetroot in 2021, which is 16% less than in 2020 and 2 times less than in 2019.

Thus, a quite successful start to the export season this year gives reason to believe that the downward trend in the volume of table beet exports from Uzbekistan is likely to be reversed by the end of 2022.
