Garlic exports season starts in Uzbekistan

The volume of exports of garlic from Uzbekistan has increased significantly over the past ten days. Market participants confirmed this to EastFruit specialists, which allows us to announce the start of peak exports of garlic of the new crop.

According to preliminary data by the Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan exported 910 tonnes of garlic from 19 to 28 April 2022, which is 33 times more than on 1-18 April; and almost 8 times more than in January-March 2022.

According to market participants, the peak export of winter garlic of the new crop, which was sown in August-September last year, started. In the current season, mass exports began about 10-15 days earlier than last year. The season for the peak exports of new-crop garlic from Uzbekistan in 2021 started in the first ten days of May.

It is worth noting that the volume of fresh garlic exports from 19 to 28 April 2022 was almost 7 times higher than the total volume exported in April 2021 and almost 6 times higher than in April 2020.

Almost the entire volume of fresh garlic has been shipped to the markets of the EAEU countries over the past ten days.

According to official data, in total, Uzbekistan exported 2 800 tonnes of fresh garlic in 2021, which is 30% more than in 2020. However, this is significantly lower than the maximum volume over the past 5 years exported in 2018 – 5 200 tonnes.
