Ukrainian producers raise minimum prices for apples

Trade on the Ukrainian apple market has intensified recently. Representatives of wholesale companies, referring to relatively active apple sales in retail chains, increased their purchases, as analysts of the EastFruit project report. Simultaneously, the supply of high-quality apples on the market is somewhat limited, contributing to the prices’ growth. Many producers currently offer for sale mainly products, the quality of which has begun to deteriorate due to long-term storage.

As a result, since last week, the minimum prices for apples in Ukraine have grown by an average of 25%. Local producers are willing to sell apples not cheaper than UAH 10-17/kg ($0.35-0.60/kg) depending on the size and variety. Idared and Golden varieties are in the highest demand.

According to key market players, the supply of local apples continues to decline gradually. Many Ukrainian producers have already closed the current apple sales season. Besides, Gala apples are almost gone, which resulted in increased selling prices in the segment.

Local apples in Ukraine are already on average 11% more expensive than in the second half of January 2020.
