Potato prices in Georgia reach their peak this week

The average price for Georgian potatoes is at its peak in EastFruit’s monitoring history for this week. Right now, farmers in Georgia are selling potatoes at $0.35/kg, which is more than twice higher compared to the same period last year. Given the unusually high exports in September 2021, EastFruit analysts expected such a price change.

The average prices for Georgian potatoes in the 43rd week are 106% higher than in the same week of 2020, 46% higher than in 2019, and 67% higher than in 2018.

We remind you that active exports of potatoes are due to the recent unfavorable situation on the Russian market.

Georgian sources report that exports were active in October as well. There are fears that exports at such rate will lead to a shortage of potatoes on the Georgian market. Accurate October export data will be available at EastFruit next week.
