Future Agro Challenge Georgia 2022: Which Georgian startups were selected?

On December 23 EastFruit Georgian team attended a demo day of Future Agro Challenge Georgia held in Tbilisi. Future Agro Challenge is a global initiative that is being held in Georgia for the fourth year. Future Agro Challenge aims to discover and support agricultural startup ideas globally. Winners from different countries will meet up at the annual global summit in Greece. Besides the opportunity to visit the global summit in Greece, the winner from Georgia also got 8 000 GEL from GITA this year.

This year’s competition was held in a different format compared to previous years. The organizers focused on regional startups from Western Georgia. They visited the regions and selected the startups for two-month training before the final presentations.

On the day of the presentation, 9 startups from the Imereti, Samegrelo, Guria, and Adjara regions were presented in front of the jury. Only three of the startups had product ideas and the rest had digital services. Startups from Imereti, Adjara, and Samegrelo participated in the competition.

The jury selected three startup ideas to visit the global summit planned in Greece in 2023, although only one startup received a monetary award of 8 000 GEL ($2 962) from GITA.

The selected startup ideas are:

Gemozea – a Georgian sauce producer from Guria, planning to produce dry (dehydrated) sauces in one-time packets. Gemozea became the winner of the cash prize.

GELA – a trading platform for small farmers to sell their products without intermediaries.

Agrometri – an online application to help users plan and implement greenhouse construction at all stages.

Future Agro Challenge Georgia was organized by Startup Buro and Agro Solutions Group with the support of the USAID agriculture program in Georgia.
