Another jump in price for bananas in Russia

Analysts of the APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits project noticed another jump in price for bananas on the Russian market. Traders think the main reason is the rise in prices for bananas on the foreign market due to the rather limited supply.

Currently, importers offer bananas at 89-115 rubles/kg ($1.17-1.51/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than at the end of the last working week. The APK-Inform experts think the main reason for the next jump in prices for bananas is the further devaluation of the ruble against the dollar. Also, these prices are supported by the rise in prices for these products directly in Ecuador itself, where the supply of these fruits has sharply decreased due to the off-season.

It should be noted that today the price for bananas in Russia are already on average 1.5 times higher than in the same period last year. Market players do not exclude the possibility of further appreciation of these fruits, despite the very low demand in this segment. Many Russian importers, given the very low demand on the domestic market, either refuse to buy bananas altogether or agree to work exclusively on order.
