At the end of January 2024 in Chisinau the retail price for the highest quality “Moldova” grapes with large dense berries and green branches is close to 45-55 MDL/kg (US $2.53-3.10/kg), which is almost three times as high as wholesale price for this product, according to EastFruit. Stores claim that that stocks of high quality grapes in Moldova are very low, while the local demand for it is quite high.
Representatives of viticulture organizations note that now, only small batches of table grapes from several dozen to several hundred tons remain in the storage facilities. Those market players who did not sell the “Moldova” grapes at the end of 2023 and were hoping for an unprecedented price of 28-30 MDL/kg (US $1.6-1.7).
Well, it is clear that they were wrong as wholesale prices of table grapes in Moldova have been gown down very rapidly in the recent weeks.
As of the end of the past week wholesale prices of “Moldova” table grapes went down to US $1.01 per kg – reaching the same price that was observed a year ago. Until the past week prices were constantly much higher than in 2022/23 season. Since the beginning of the year farmers who did not sell grapes earlier have already lost US $240 per each tone of grapes in their storage.

Nonetheless, the prices are still rather good as compared to earlier years when grapes sold at this time of the year for around US $0.65 on average. Therefore, most likely farmers of Moldova will soon release the last available volumes to close this rather good season.
