The price increase for potatoes observed in the Ukrainian market last week has already transitioned to a decline this week due to a drop in trading activity in this segment, as reported by analysts from the EastFruit project. As a result, Ukrainian farmers have begun to revise previously set prices for their available product batches downward, despite already depleted potato stocks in local storages.
Just a week ago, prices for potatoes of corresponding quality in Ukraine often reached up to 30 UAH/kg ($0.73/kg). However, as of today, prices range between 18–28 UAH/kg ($0.44–0.68/kg), which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of last workweek. Producers attribute this situation to several reasons, the main one being the previous week’s price hike and buyers’ reluctance to purchase the product at those prices.

It should be noted that currently, potato prices in Ukraine are on average 18% higher than in early March 2024. Moreover, several producers believe that the downward price trend in this segment is temporary since the market is experiencing a shortage of quality products as potato stocks in households and commercial producers continue to deplete rapidly.
