Ukrainian farmers rush to sell last year’s cabbage and reduce prices

The price of white cabbage from last year’s harvest has decreased in Ukraine this week, analysts of the EastFruit project report. According to market participants, Ukrainian farmers today rush to sell stocks of old cabbage before the massive sales of early cabbage start, and market pressure increases.

Today, white cabbage of the 2022 crop is offered at 15-18 UAH/kg ($0.41-0.49/kg), which is on average 10% cheaper than a week earlier.

Market participants associate the downward price trend with the rapid deterioration of the quality of cabbage in local farms due to long-term storage. At the same time, the demand for it is very low, which also puts pressure on prices in the segment.

It should be noted that white cabbage in Ukraine is currently sold at an average of 18% cheaper than a year ago. Project analysts do not rule out that cabbage from last year’s harvest will continue to become cheaper as its quality decreases in Ukrainian farms.
