Ukrainian strawberry producers managed to increase selling prices this week, EastFruit project analysts report. Market operators say the primary reason for the price rise is unstable and low-volume deliveries of strawberries from local farms, which are explained by worsening weather conditions in the main production regions.
At the same time, one should not forget that the Kherson region, which was one of the main suppliers of early strawberries, is currently under occupation and cannot supply its products to other regions of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian growers began to actively raise prices for local strawberries. Thus, the price increased by 30% average only since the beginning of the week, and today strawberries go on sale at 70-120 UAH/kg ($2.39-4.10/kg).
It should be noted that local strawberries in the Ukrainian market are currently sold on average 20% more expensive than in mid-May last year. At the same time, most of the key market players do not rule out that the prices in the segment may drop significantly soon. They argue their opinion by the fact that open-field strawberries will become available in large volumes by the end of the current month.
