Cabbage from Albania and North Macedonia enters the markets, apple prices weaken – weekly market report

EastFruit team provides another market update based on the trends observed at the EastFruit Trade Platform during the second week of February 2025.

The market experienced a dynamic week with a notable increase in the supply of white cabbage, while the availability of potatoes and onions decreased. Prices for greenhouse cucumbers continued to rise, and there was a significant increase in the number of sellers for Chinese cabbage. The fruit segment saw a rise in apple sales, with prices declining due to lower quality, while grape prices increased due to limited supply.

Let’s have a deeper dive into these market trends.

In the vegetable segment, white cabbage emerged as the top-selling product, with increased activity from sellers in Ukraine and Uzbekistan. New offers for cabbage also came from Albania and Macedonia. The supply of potatoes decreased by 20%, and there were fewer offers for onions compared to the previous week. This trend aligns with the previous week’s report, which highlighted a decline in potato prices and an increase in the geographical spread of potato offers.

Greenhouse cucumbers saw a continued rise in prices for the second consecutive week in Ukraine and Uzbekistan. This trend contrasts with the previous week’s report, where cucumber prices in Uzbekistan had already started to rise. The number of sellers for Chinese cabbage doubled, indicating a significant increase in supply. Additionally, daikon radish and greens returned to the top-selling list, maintaining their popularity from the previous week.

In the fruit segment, apple sales continued to dominate, with increased offers from Ukraine and Iran. The quality of apples in storage declined, leading to lower prices despite robust demand. This trend is consistent with the previous week’s report, which noted a rise in apple sales. Grape prices increased due to limited supply, while orange prices decreased, and mandarin prices rose. The supply of persimmons decreased but prices also dropped, while kiwi and pomegranate prices increased.

The market trends observed over the past week indicate a dynamic and evolving landscape. The increase in white cabbage supply and the rise in cucumber prices highlight the shifting demand and supply dynamics. The decline in potato and onion availability suggests potential supply constraints, which could impact prices in the coming weeks. The fruit segment’s mixed price trends reflect varying supply conditions and quality issues.
