Moroccan frozen raspberry exports to Poland up 9-fold in just 3 years!

Morocco has emerged as the most dynamic supplier of frozen raspberries to Poland, as evidenced by official Polish customs data. EastFruit analysts have observed a remarkable ninefold surge in Morocco’s raspberry shipments to Poland over a mere three-year span, culminating in 2.9 thousand tons by the close of 2023. This impressive growth has propelled Morocco to the third rank among Poland’s primary raspberry sources, trailing only Ukraine and Serbia.

To put this into perspective, Ukraine’s raspberry exports to Poland have more than doubled, reaching 26.1 thousand tons, while Serbia’s exports to the same destination have plummeted by 42%, down to 4.7 thousand tons. This trend suggests that Moroccan suppliers are capturing market shares previously held by their Serbian counterparts.

Intriguingly, despite vocal opposition and hyperbolic rhetoric from Polish political figures and bureaucrats—often detached from on-the-ground realities—Ukraine maintains its status as Poland’s foremost raspberry exporter. The current deficit of frozen raspberries in the European market has led Polish importers to seek out Ukrainian berries, reaping considerable profits through resale.

Looking ahead to the 2024/25 season, it is anticipated that frozen raspberry prices within the EU will significantly outstrip those of the last two seasons. Our March 1st publication offers a detailed price forecast for raspberries in Ukraine and the surrounding region. Notably, Ukraine stands out as one of the rare regional players where, in spite of depressed raspberry prices, cultivation areas have not dwindled.
