Melons Have Significantly Increased in Price in Ukraine

This week, Ukraine has seen a rise in melon prices, as reported by analysts from the EastFruit project. According to market participants, the price increase is primarily due to a continued reduction in the supply of these crops. The hot and dry weather is currently having a negative impact on the quality of this produce and is contributing to a decrease in harvests on local farms.

As of today, farmers are ready to ship melons directly from the fields at 15-25 UAH/kg ($0.36-0.61/kg), which is, on average, 44% higher than at the end of last working week. It is worth noting that the melon selling season in Ukrainian farms is now coming to an end. However, as producers claim, trading activity in the market is currently quite high, which, against the backdrop of limited supply, allows sellers to raise their prices.

It should also be noted that despite the significant price increase in this segment, melons are currently selling at an average of 20% cheaper than during the same period last year in Ukraine.
