Another Price Increase for Tomatoes in Ukraine

A noticeable rise in demand for greenhouse tomatoes leading up to the New Year holidays is driving a significant price increase for this product in the Ukrainian market, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Experts emphasize that currently, the market is predominantly composed of imported tomatoes from Turkey.

Traders report that just since the beginning of the week, these vegetables have become 20% more expensive on the domestic market. Today, imported tomatoes are being sold at 80-100 UAH/kg ($1.91-2.38/kg), depending on the quality, batch size, and variety of the product offered.

According to market participants, the supply of tomatoes this week has been insufficient. Local operations have nearly ceased due to the end of the selling season. Meanwhile, the supply of imported products has not been able to fully meet the existing demand, allowing sellers to increase the selling prices of imported goods.

It is noted that greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are already, on average, 12% more expensive than during the same period last year. Market players are confident in a further increase in prices, as despite the rapid price surge, demand in this segment remains consistently high.
