Watermelon season has started in Ukraine

This week, Ukrainian producers began shipping the first large batches of watermelons from local farms, EastFruit project analysts report.

It should be noted that the sale of these melons in the current year began at least a week earlier than in the previous one. At the same time, deliveries of the first batches of watermelons from local farms are carried out at higher prices than a year ago. Thus, today watermelons are offered for sale in the range of 18-27 UAH/kg ($0.49-0.74/kg), which is, on average, 59% more expensive than the first batches of these melons last year. According to key market players, higher prices for local watermelons this year are primarily due to the lack of supplies of this product from the Kherson region, which is, in fact, the leader in growing watermelons.

According to the producers, a more massive sale of watermelons will begin in early August. At the same time, most Ukrainian melon growers do not exclude a sharp decrease in the price of watermelons soon due to an increase in the supply of this product from local farms on the market.
