The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, and Agriculture of Ukraine has developed a draft concept for the industrial development of potato growing for 2021–2025. According to AgroPortal, this is stated in the message of the Information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine.
As noted, the purpose of the document is to increase the volume of production of high-quality seed and ware potatoes in industrial areas in agricultural enterprises, the development of market infrastructure related to providing the population with products and processing of potatoes.
“The development of the potato growing industry will increase industrial production and saturate the commodity market with competitive domestic products. The ministry and specialized associations are working on implementing state support for this direction,” the statement says.
Besides, the implementation of the concept will saturate the commodity market with competitive local products throughout the year, improve the material and technical base of agricultural enterprises, create additional jobs, and ensure the further development of Ukrainian agricultural science.
“Currently, in Ukraine, the share of industrial production of potatoes is less than 2%. To bring the industry to a modern competitive level, the Ministry of Economic Development plans to introduce a new direction of support for the potato growing industry, which provides an increase in acreage and attraction of capital investments in storage and processing. This will contribute to the production of value-added products, an increase in the export of high-quality products and the development of entrepreneurship in rural areas,” said Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade, and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky.
