Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are on the rise again, according to analysts from EastFruit. Market participants point to several contributing factors. Firstly, the supply of cucumbers has decreased due to unstable yields in both stationary and film greenhouses. Simultaneously, the demand for cucumbers remains robust.
Today, Ukrainian greenhouse complexes are selling cucumbers at 50-65 UAH/kg ($1.21-1.58/kg), which is on average 11% higher than at the end of the previous workweek. Market players attribute the price increase to the limited supply of greenhouse cucumbers amidst heightened demand. Harvests in the complexes have noticeably decreased following deteriorating weather conditions. Additionally, the current lack of competition from imported products is supporting local vegetable prices.

It’s worth noting that as of today, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are being sold at the same prices as during the 2023 and 2022 seasons. However, market operators warn that another price hike for local cucumbers could lead to a sharp increase in imports. Competing with imported vegetables will be increasingly challenging for Ukrainian complexes, as most of them are now forced to use heating. Forecasts indicate that average daily air temperatures in Ukraine will continue to drop, directly affecting the production cost of greenhouse vegetables in the country.
