1- Egyptian mangoes (the real mangoes). While Egypt is indeed exporting a lot of mangoes, these are only internationally recognized varieties. However, Egypt has their own varieties, which are not exported at all due to their soft skin and short shelf-life and these are completely different in taste. Locals call them “the real mangoes”. Local Egyptian mangoes are unique and sought-after fruits, with several distinctive features that set them apart from other mango varieties all over the world. Here are some key points that highlight the edges of Egyptian mangoes:

  1. Unmatched sweetness: Egyptian mangoes are renowned for their unparalleled sweetness, with a Brix value of over 23. The most popular Egyptian mango variety, Awis, is known to have a Brix value higher than 23, making it one of the sweetest mangoes in the world.
  2. Eco-friendly cultivation: Mangoes are one of the most commonly grown crops for land reclamation in Egypt. This eco-friendly cultivation method helps restore degraded land and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
  3. Seasonal availability: The mango season in Egypt typically runs from June to November, providing a limited window of opportunity to enjoy these delicious fruits.
  4. Diverse range of flavors: Egypt boasts over 200 varieties of mangoes, each with its own distinct flavor, aroma, and taste. The most popular Egyptian mango varieties include Awees, Fas, Taymour, Alfons, and Hendi. No wonder that everyone could find a local mango variety in Egypt for his/her taste preference!

How about an idea for a challenge – be the first foreigner to try all 200+ Egyptian mango varieties?! Perhaps it even be worth the Guiness Record!
