Tomato prices rising again in Ukraine

This week in Ukraine, prices for greenhouse tomatoes have increased, as reported by analysts from the EastFruit project. The price rise is attributed to the seasonal decline in the supply of local tomatoes from greenhouse complexes, as the majority of producers have already announced the completion of the current production cycle.

As of today, tomatoes are being sold at 80-90 UAH/kg ($1.92-2.16/kg), which is on average 13% higher than at the end of last week. The newly formed prices for this product maintain the highest levels in the domestic market of Ukraine for at least the last 7 years! According to producers, current vegetable harvests in local stationary complexes are small in volume, allowing sellers to increase the prices of the existing product volumes. Meanwhile, traders have yet been unable to compensate for the insufficient supply of local tomatoes with imported products.

It is worth noting that as of now, the price for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine is already on average 49% higher than at the end of November 2023. Regarding future forecasts, market participants anticipate that soon, tomato shipments from Turkey will increase, and considering that the selling season in Ukrainian complexes is nearing its end, the main supply of greenhouse vegetables will predominantly consist of imported products.
