This week Ukrainian farmers have shipped their first relatively large batches of red- and blackcurrants, as reported by EastFruit. Despite rather long and cold spring, the current season started at the same time as last year.
Nevertheless, starting prices for currants are now averagely 23% lower in Ukraine year-over-year in the national currency and vary between UAH 50-70/kg ($1,37-1,91/кг). Moreover, Ukrainian market players expect them to continue to go down in view of larger yields due to new plantations coming into bearing.

In their turn, Ukrainian growers link lower prices of red- and blackcurrants to higher supply of other seasonal fruits and berries in Ukraine, as well as rather moderate demand in the market.
