The prices for high-quality tomatoes are increasing rapidly in Ukraine

In Ukraine, the price of a high-quality greenhouse tomato is growing rapidly, analysts of the EastFruit project report . According to the information of the project, due to the intense heat, the quality of these products has deteriorated sharply. Producers often report that fruits remain burnt due to the heat. As a result, the supply of substandard tomato grows on the market, while there are practically no quality products.

So, today the plants are ready to ship greenhouse tomatoes no cheaper than 20-30 UAH/kg ($0.55-0.82/kg), which is 26% more expensive on average than at the end of the last working week.

Growers explain the increase in prices in the greenhouse tomato segment by a reduce harvest in greenhouse complexes. At the same time, prices were supported by stable high demand. It is important to note that, among other things, the limited supply of open field tomatoes contributed to the rise in the price of greenhouse tomatoes. The main share of open ground tomato is now represented by products of low quality, which increases the interest of buyers in high-quality products from greenhouses.

As a result, even today Ukrainian greenhouse complexes manage to ship tomatoes on average 20% more expensive than at the end of last summer. In addition, growers  do not exclude the possibility of a further rise in prices in this segment, since the sales of greenhouse tomatoes remain quite active.
