This week, Ukrainian producers have taken the opportunity to raise onion prices, according to analysts from EastFruit. Farmers report that they have been able to increase prices due to a significant rise in demand. Meanwhile, the supply of high-quality onions on the market remains quite limited, as many farms continue to withhold their stock from storage.
It is important to note that the price increase is observed exclusively in the high-quality product segment, while the supply of medium and low-quality vegetables has significantly decreased. Currently, Ukrainian farms are offering high-quality onions for sale at 12-17 UAH/kg ($0.29-0.41/kg), which is on average 35% higher than at the end of last week.
As a result, onion prices in Ukraine now exceed last year’s figures for the same period by an average of 16%. However, market analysts note that this situation is somewhat artificial, as many farms are simply refusing to sell at current prices, thereby creating an even greater shortage of these vegetables on the market.

Comparing the onion market situation with other countries in the EastFruit monitoring region, Ukraine could have the highest prices for this vegetable by the end of this week. Experts believe that if this trend continues, onion imports to Ukraine may start earlier than usual this season.
