Ukrainian greenhouse enterprises are raising tomato prices, as reported by EastFruit project analysts. Market participants attribute this situation to a significant decrease in the supply of greenhouse vegetables, while the demand remains stable. According to producers, tomato yields in greenhouse enterprises have slightly decreased due to cool weather and gradually declining average daily air temperatures.
As a result, greenhouse enterprises have been able to increase the selling prices for their available product batches. Currently, greenhouse tomatoes are being sold in the range of 55-65 UAH/kg ($1.33-$1.58/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the offered batch, which is on average 10% higher than at the end of the previous working week. The newly established prices in this market segment remain the highest in at least the last seven years of monitoring!

Sellers claim that the reason for this situation is a very limited supply of tomatoes in the market. Most small producers have nearly completed their sales and are now offering tomatoes only in small wholesale quantities, with the quality of such products often being low. At the same time, harvests from stationary greenhouses also remain low in volume, so enterprises are releasing products in small batches.
It is noteworthy that as of today, greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are already on average 22% more expensive than during the same period last year. Moreover, many producers are expressing their intention to attempt further price increases in this segment by next week, since demand for tomatoes remains quite high even after the price hike.
