Georgia’s revenue from hazelnut exports is 47% higher than last year

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the volume of exports of Georgian hazelnuts in monetary terms amounted to $57.2 million, which is 47% higher than a year ago ($38.8 million).

During the specified period, Georgia exported 10 thousand 848 tons of hazelnuts, or 38% more than a year earlier (7 thousand 855 tons).

Georgia supplied about 71% of the total export volume to the European Union countries. In particular, 3,131 tons were sold to Germany, 2,124 tons to Italy, 594 tons to the Czech Republic, 330 tons to Spain, Poland — 320 tons, Lithuania — 311 tons, Bulgaria — 300 tons, France — 218 tons, Greece — 97 tons, Estonia — 88 tons, Latvia — 84 tons, Slovakia — 64 tons, Luxembourg — 60 tons, Austria — 22 tons, and Croatia — 10 tons.

Georgia’s export markets also included the following countries: Russia — 540 tons, Turkey — 530 tons, Armenia — 527 tons, Belarus — 284 tons, Brazil — 186 tons, Ukraine — 176 tons, Algeria — 173 tons, Canada — 136 tons, Saudi Arabia — 95 tons, Mexico — 67 tons, Syria — 50 tons, Switzerland — 47 tons, Jordan — 38 tons, Iraq — 24 tons, Great Britain — 22 tons, USA — 19 tons, etc.

According to the operators of the Georgian hazelnut industry, the total export volume of Georgian hazelnuts of the 2020 harvest, in terms of unpeeled nuts, will be about 50 thousand tons.

Harvesting of hazelnuts in Georgia ended at the end of August. Currently, exporters buy stored hazelnuts from producers.
