Earlier, EastFruit wrote that three months from the beginning of the season, the volume of pear exports from Uzbekistan was 2.1 times lower than last year. One of the main factors for the sharp decline in the volume of Uzbek pear exports this season was the relatively high price for these products compared to last year’s levels.
Over the past week, wholesale prices for pears in Uzbekistan decreased by 13%. Due to multidirectional price dynamics for these products in September of this and last year, the average wholesale price for pears fell below last year’s. If the downward trend continues or wholesale prices remain at current levels, this gives hope for increasing the volume of shipments of Uzbek pears to foreign markets.
According to EastFruit price monitoring, from September 22 to 29, 2023, the average wholesale price for fresh pears in Uzbekistan decreased from 15,000 to 13,000 soums/kg (from $1.23 to $1.07). Taking into account that a stable trend has formed since the second ten days of August this year, from August 11 to September 29, 2023, the average wholesale price for pears decreased from 23,000 to 13,000 soums/kg (from $1.90 to $1.07), by 43% over a period of just over a month and a half.
As can be observed at the graph above, if from the second ten days of August to the end of the first ten days of September, there were similar dynamics compared to last year, then the behavior of wholesale prices is multidirectional over the last three weeks.

The sharp decline in wholesale prices for pears in Uzbekistan observed over the past few weeks is certainly a positive factor for increasing the export of these products. However, this could become an important incentive to increase the volume of shipments of Uzbek pears to foreign markets if wholesale prices for these products remain at the current level or continue to decline, since until mid-September of this year, prices for pears were significantly higher than last year’s levels.
