Farmers of the southern regions of Ukraine harvesting first raspberries

This week, the first batches of raspberries from the southern regions of the country appeared on the Ukrainian market, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. It should be noted that this year the raspberry sales season started about 10 days later than a year earlier due to cold and long spring.

Today farmers of the southern regions offer raspberries for sale at 140-200 UAH/kg ($ 5.15-7.35/kg), depending on the quality. As the producers note, only a few farms have started harvesting raspberries so far. At the same time, they sell only small batches of berries. As market participants forecast, raspberries will be sold more massively after July 10.

In the same period last year, the raspberry season in Ukraine was already in full swing, and the prices were at the level of 50-80 UAH/kg ($ 1.84-2.94/kg), which is 1.6 times average cheaper than now. The farmers managed to set higher prices due to the relatively small supply on the market, since cool rainy weather led to the ripening of raspberries slowing down in the farms of the central and western regions. At the same time, the demand for berries is quite high, which also supports prices.
