Cucumber prices up in Ukraine due to import disruption

The supply of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine is currently extremely low, causing their prices to rise, reports EastFruit. Most of the cucumbers on the Ukrainian market come from Turkey, as only a few Ukrainian greenhouse enterprises are now able to produce them locally.

This week, the price of greenhouse cucumbers varied from 90 to 135 UAH /kg ($2.37 to 3.55/kg), which is 17% higher than the previous week on average.

The main reason for the price hike is the high cost of cucumbers in Turkey, which is Ukraine’s traditional supplier of greenhouse vegetables in the winter season. In addition, this week, the Ukrainian market received only a small amount of imported cucumbers, and their quality was poor, according to many wholesale companies.

It is important to note that greenhouse cucumbers are now 70% more expensive on average in the Ukrainian market than in early January 2023. However, many market participants believe that the cucumber market will soon return to normal, once the Turkish products become more available in Ukraine.
