Cherry export season started in Uzbekistan (photo)

A few days ago, Uzbek exporters started shipping cherries to foreign markets. The exports of fresh cherries from Uzbekistan in 2022 started in the first days of May – 4-5 days earlier than last year, and according to EastFruit analysts, about 350-400 tonnes were exported from May 1 to May 4, 2022.

According to producers, cherries of the “Bakhor” variety (translated from the Uzbek language as “Spring”), from which the export season begins, ripened in Uzbekistan by the end of April – beginning of May.

According to the head of one of the export companies of Uzbekistan, the director of Rizq Agro Group LLC Urinbayev Shakhboz from the Fergana region, cherries of 20-26 mm caliber are currently offered for export. Depending on the quality and type of packaging, shipping prices for cherries of a caliber closer to 26 mm fluctuate in the range of 50 000 – 70 000 UZS/kg ($4.5-6.3), taking into account packaging and costs for handling.

We remind you that Uzbekistan is one of the largest exporters of cherries in the global market and ranked 5th in the world in terms of cherry exports last year. Despite the weather anomalies observed in Uzbekistan in winter and early spring of 2021, which caused significant damage to the stone fruit crop, cherries became the only stone fruit for which Uzbekistan sharply increased exports in 2021. The exports doubled to 60 100 tonnes (worth $83.1 million) against 29 300 tonnes (worth $56.4 million) in 2020. This was a record volume of cherry exports from Uzbekistan ever.
