Banana prices in Uzbekistan have risen by 14% in two weeks

Wholesale banana prices in Uzbekistan are rising for the second week in a row, and over the past two weeks, the average wholesale price for these products has increased by 14%. However, current wholesale prices remain below the levels recorded in the same period of previous years, EastFruit experts note.

According to EastFruit price monitoring, from September 22 to October 6, 2023, the average wholesale price for bananas in Uzbekistan increased from 14,000 to 16,000 sum/kg (from $1.15 to $1.31), which was the first significant increase in prices for these products over the past 5.5 months. From the third ten days of April to the end of June of this year, wholesale prices for bananas steadily decreased. Then, until the end of the second ten days of September, the average wholesale price remained almost the same level.

At the same time, wholesale banana prices in Uzbekistan remain below the levels of previous years. As of October 6, 2023, the average wholesale price for these products is the lowest compared to levels recorded for the same date in 2020-2022.

Banana is one of the growing positions in Uzbekistan’s imports in the fresh fruits and vegetables segment. In August of this year, EastFruit wrote about a record volume of imports of these products in April-June 2023 compared to the same period in previous years, facilitated by a steady decline in banana prices in the second quarter.
