Apple prices reach historic high in Ukraine

Apple prices have recently reached their historic high in Ukraine, according to EastFruit.

As of today current prices of apples in Ukraine vary between UAH 25-37 ($0,68-1,01/kg), an average increase of 60% week-over-week. Such a rapid rise is connected with minimal supply of both apples and seasonal fruits and berries in the Ukrainian market.

This year harvesting of most fruits and berries will start later in Ukraine due to cold and long spring. Moreover, some parts of Kherson and Zaporizhia Oblasts, previously big suppliers of seasonal fruits and berries, are still under the russian occupation.

In addition, the supply of high-quality apples of Ukrainian origin has recently fallen, as Ukrainian growers have mostly finished their sales. Meanwhile, harvesting of early apples has not begun yet. Thus, growers with relatively large apple stocks reacted immediately and raised their prices.

A sharp year-over-year rise in apple prices in Ukraine should also be mentioned, as they have almost quadrupled compared with a year before! There is also almost no sign of any declines in the nearest future, as early apples are to arrive in the Ukrainian market no earlier than in the mid-July.
