Since the beginning of the current week, prices for white cabbage have started to rise in Ukraine, report analysts from the EastFruit project. Currently, the Ukrainian cabbage market is experiencing an off-season period where the sale of middle-season varieties has already concluded, and only a few farms have begun selling late-season varieties. Consequently, limited supply amidst active trading is driving up prices in this market segment.
Farmers from major production regions are now offering white cabbage for sale at prices ranging from 18-25 UAH/kg ($0.44-0.60/kg), which is on average 22% higher than at the end of last week. The wide price range is attributed by producers to the varying quality of the vegetables offered. Meanwhile, according to sellers, demand from buyers remains stable across different price segments.
Farmers point out that the sharp increase in cabbage prices is driven by several factors. Primarily, it is linked to the significant reduction in the supply of this product on the market, as many farms have already concluded the season for middle-season varieties, and only a few have begun harvesting late-season cabbage. Simultaneously, demand in this segment is quite high, further provoking price increases.

Additionally, at present, white cabbage in Ukraine is on average 3.3 times more expensive than during the same period last year. Market participants do not rule out the possibility of further substantial price increases at the beginning of next week. However, they anticipate a significant price decline within a week or two as the market starts to see a large influx of late-season cabbage.
