Uzbekistan has seen a surge in onion exports in December, as exporters of this product have become more active in shipping to foreign markets, EastFruit reports.
According to logistics operators, the demand for transport to ship Uzbekistani onions for export has increased manifold in the last ten days of November and the first ten days of December, compared to the average level of the first twenty days of November and the whole month of October. Based on the requests for vehicles, the main destination of Uzbek onion shipments is Latvia, which accounts for about one-third of the total transport requests. Poland is the second-largest market, followed by Russia, Belarus, and Georgia. There are also occasional requests for transport to ship onions from Uzbekistan to Greece, Spain, Norway, and Romania.
As EastFruit has already pointed out, onions will be one of the export hits of Uzbekistan in the fruit and vegetable segment by the end of 2023. This year, the country has not only increased the volumes of this product to foreign markets sharply, but also expanded the export geography significantly.

According to the preliminary estimates, Uzbekistan exported about 245 thousand tons of onions in January-November 2023. This is 33% more than in the same period of 2022 and 22% more than in the same period of 2021 in the volume terms. Moreover, while last year Uzbekistani onions were delivered to the markets of 14 countries, this year the number of importing countries has grown by at least 50%.
