Ukrainian producers are reducing prices for greenhouse cucumbers from the very start of season

The prices for greenhouse cucumbers on the Ukrainian market have begun to gradually decrease, according to analysts from the EastFruit project.

Market operators attribute this situation to the increased supply of new turnover vegetables from local farms. According to the project, almost all stationary greenhouse complexes in Ukraine have already started to sell this product.

As a result of these price adjustments, cucumber sales are currently taking place within the range of 80-120 UAH/kg ($1.93-2.89/kg), which is on average 11% cheaper than at the end of the previous work week. Another decisive factor for the price reduction in this segment was the decreased demand for greenhouse cucumbers. Wholesale companies and supermarket chains have reduced their purchase volumes of local products this week, citing low sales rates in retail.

It is worth noting that as of today, Ukrainian greenhouse complexes are forced to offer cucumbers on average 20% cheaper than at the end of February 2024. Moreover, most key market players do not rule out further price reductions in this segment. They justify their opinion by stating that the supply of local cucumbers continues to increase daily, while sales rates of this product leave much to be desired.
