Ukrainian gardeners reduce prices for apples of a new harvest

Over the past week, prices for an early apple in Ukraine have decreased slightly, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. At the same time, according to the producers, the harvest of the early apple in the current season will be slightly lower than last year due to the wave of spring frosts.

According to the project data, since the end of the previous week alone, the wholesale price for early apple varieties on the Ukrainian market has decreased by an average of 10%. To date, producers offer these fruits for sale at a price of 14-22 UAH / kg ($ 0.52-0.81 / kg), depending on the quality and variety. According to gardeners, they are forced to reduce prices by a rather high supply of seasonal fruits, while the demand for apples is kept at a low level.

However, at the same time, despite the negative price trend in the segment of early apples, the prices for these fruits at the moment are still, on average, 1.8 times higher than in the same period last year. Market operators will explain this price difference by the late start of the season this year, as well as by a significant decrease in the gross harvest of early apples in the country.
