Requirements for fruit juices and similar food products and changes to the relevant draft order, particularly on the content of natural sugar, were considered at a working group meeting chaired by the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, Taras Vysotsky.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the public sector and business, writes EastFruit with reference to the information of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
As noted at the meeting, the EU will initiate the production of juices with a decrease in natural sugar content. The European Commission is developing the relevant directive.
According to Taras Vysotsky, the main goal of the requirements for juices is the harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with the legislation of the European Union. This is one of the Action Plan’s requirements for the Association Agreement’s implementation. In particular, it is proposed to approve the requirements for terminology, quality characteristics, labeling, and labeling of fruit juices so that the consumer receives complete information about the composition and quality of the product.
As for the reduction of sugar in juices produced in Ukraine, then, as the First Deputy Minister noted, changes must be made after the adoption of the directive by the European Commission.
