Ukraine has become the 179th member of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), reports EastFruit, citing the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
Ukraine is now a member state of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This prestigious organization is the only UN agency fully dedicated to the transformation of agriculture, the development of rural economies, and food systems.
“This is a strategic step that the Ministry of Agrarian Policy has been working on. Following the latest working meeting with IFAD representatives in Rome, we succeeded in becoming the 179th member country. Membership in IFAD offers Ukraine new opportunities and prospects that will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector as a whole,” commented Vitaliy Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
The Minister noted that IFAD prioritizes the development of small-scale farming. Support from IFAD will enable Ukrainian producers to enhance competitiveness, strengthen market positions, and influence the overall development of the country’s agricultural sector.

Moreover, Ukrainian producers will gain access to affordable financial resources, grant support, participation in the Fund’s tenders for goods and services procurement, and investments supporting sustainable development, particularly in areas such as:
- Productivity enhancement;
- Income growth;
- Innovative technologies;
- Resilience to crises and climate changes.
Additionally, according to Vitaliy Koval, joining the fund will foster investment in the development of rural infrastructure and the adoption of technologies aiding climate change adaptation, which is crucial for Ukrainian farmers working in the southern regions of our country.
“The integration of Ukraine into the Fund not only supports the development of the agricultural sector but also creates new opportunities for developing sustainable, productive, and innovative agriculture in Ukraine,” he said.
