Ukraine Again Sets New Records in Frozen Raspberry Exports

According to EastFruit analysts, Ukraine continues to actively catch up with global leaders in frozen raspberry exports despite Russian and North Corean invasion and daily terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Although Serbia and Poland remain global leaders in this category, Poland increasingly relies on re-exporting raspberries, mainly of Ukrainian origin, to maintain its position.

During the first three months of the 2024/25 season, from July to September inclusive, Ukraine exported over 28,000 tons of frozen raspberries and blackberries, setting a new record for this period. Exports thus increased by 36% compared to the same period last year and by 45% compared to 2022. It is noteworthy that the export growth occurs amid numerous reports from farmers about a decrease in raspberry yields in 2024.

“Despite Poland remaining the main market for Ukrainian frozen raspberries, its share in the total export volume continues to decline. Ukraine is gradually starting to take away traditional Polish markets, such as Germany and France bypassing Polish intermediaries. For example, in the current season, Germany’s market share for Ukrainian frozen raspberry exports already exceeds 20%,” says Andriy Yarmak, an economist at the FAO Investment Centre.

Among the main markets for Ukrainian raspberries at the beginning of the season are also Czechia, Lithuania, Austria, Belgium, and Italy. Additionally, the first batches of Ukrainian frozen raspberries have already been sent to such important and promising markets as the USA and Canada. Even Serbia, the global leader in frozen raspberry exports, purchased a large batch of products from Ukraine in September 2024, apparently for re-exports.

It is worth noting that this year Ukrainian farmers are complaining less about low raspberry prices, which is predictable given the traditional cyclical nature of prices for this type of product on the global market.
