Trade mission to Singapore & Malaysia for fruit and vegetable exporters from Morocco: April 2025

In April 2025, the FAO/EBRD-led project and FoodEx Morocco will organize a mission for Moroccan fruit and vegetable exporters to Southeast Asia. The initiative aims to connect Morocco, a leading country in the global fresh and frozen produce segment, with Southeast Asia, one of the few global regions experiencing steady growth in fruit and vegetable imports.

Tentative program:

  • April 21: Arrival in Singapore
  • April 22: B2B meetings with Singaporean importers and retailers
  • April 23: Departure from Singapore and arrival in Kuala Lumpur
  • April 24: B2B meetings with Malaysian importers and retailers
  • April 25: Business visits
  • April 26: Departure from Malaysia

Participants from Morocco:

The focus is on the quality of participants rather than quantity. We plan to select 5 to 15 Moroccan exporters through a rigorous selection process, which includes:

  • Verification by FoodEx
  • Verification of production and export volumes
  • Verification of export experience
  • Verification of readiness to cooperate with Singaporean and Malaysian importers
  • Verification of knowledge of Southeast Asian market specifics, logistics costs, varietal and product preferences, etc.

We will host several preparational webinars to share regional market insights and provide Moroccan exporters with up-to-date market analytics. Each exporter will be represented by a decision-maker (CEO, director, or general manager) to ensure high-level representation. We aim to include exporters ready to start shipping their products almost immediately after the B2B meetings, making the event fruitful for both exporters and importers.

Participants from Singapore and Malaysia:

We plan to have 10-15 importers and retailers from each country for the B2B meetings.

Format of B2B Meetings:

Meetings will follow a strict schedule, pre-designed and shared with each participant. Each meeting will last 20 minutes. Importers from Singapore and Malaysia will have their own tables, and Moroccan exporters will rotate according to their meeting schedules. Our goal is to organize the meetings efficiently and effectively, as demonstrated in Warsaw in November 2024.

Why Morocco for Southeast Asia?

  • Rapidly developing supplier of premium-quality products with key export markets in the EU, UK, Canada, etc.
  • Premium seedless easy-peelers with a unique season from November to April, competing only with China and Pakistan in Southeast Asia
  • Premium fresh berries, especially blueberries, with exports to Southeast Asia tripling in the past five years
  • Premium tomato categories (cherry, on-the-vine, beefsteak, pink, etc.), already available in Singapore and Malaysia, though still marketed by the Netherlands
  • Premium dates, unique in taste and flavor, fresh avocados with Morocco’s seasonal advantage, and frozen berries for Southeast Asia’s booming frozen produce industry
  • Any other premium product that can justify air freight costs
