Since the beginning of this week, prices for strawberries in Ukraine and Russia have begun to decline rapidly, according to the analysts of the EastFruit project. Market participants report that the supply of strawberries from open field is rapidly increasing, which forces producers to reduce the prices.
Today Russian producers offer open field strawberries at 180-300 rubles/kg ($ 2.45-4.08/kg), which is on average 21% cheaper than a week earlier. At the same time, experts note that the downward trend in prices for strawberries in the Russian market has been continuing since last week.
Another important factor in the price reduction for strawberries on the Russian market is the competition with strawberries imported from Turkey starting from 150 rubles/kg ($ 2.04/kg).
Meanwhile, the price of strawberries in Ukraine is announced by producers at the level of 45-65 UAH/kg ($ 1.63-2.36/kg), which is on average 18% cheaper than at the end of the last week.
It should be noted that the supply of strawberries in both countries has not yet reached its peak and the main harvest will begin only next week, which may also negatively affect prices in this segment.
In the current season, despite the late spring, strawberries in Ukraine are on average 19% cheaper than a year earlier. In the Russian market, they fell in price by an average of 24% over the year. At the same time, according to the key market players, prices in this segment will be kept at a relatively low level throughout the season, since the area cultivated with strawberries in both countries has increased over the years.
