Avocado production in Turkey has tripled over the past five years – up to 18 thousand tons. The export of avocados increased 17 times during this period.
As the Anadolu agency reported with reference to the Institute of Statistics of Turkey (TÜİK), the volume of production of avocado increased by 40.5% in 2020 compared to the previous year, amounting to 5,917 tons. Over the past five years, the volume of avocado production in Turkey has tripled, from 1,950 tons in 2016.

The avocado exports in the past five years amounted to about $3.53 million, in 2020 alone it was $1.48 million, while in 2016 it was only $464. Thus, over the past five years, the volume of avocado exports has grown 17 times.
In 2020, Turkey exported avocados to 34 countries around the world.
Russia became the leading importer of Turkish avocado last year for a total of $308.1 thousand.
In the top-3 importers of Turkish avocado we also have Ukraine with $307.5 thousand and Bulgaria with $135.7 thousand.
Over the past five years, avocado imports to Turkey amounted to $7.35 million, of which $2.71 million were in 2020.
The largest volume of avocado was imported to Turkey from Kenya – $1.79 million. Israel is on the second place, with $325.5 thousand.
Thus, over the past five years, Turkey’s foreign trade in avocado amounted to $10.9 million.
The chairman of the Agricultural Chamber of Antalya Muratpasa region, Nazif Alp, noted that avocados are in great demand today.
“The demand for avocado is growing. There are currently many farmers interested in growing avocados and their investment in the sector is growing” Alp said.
