EastFruit analysts note that strawberries are getting cheaper in Ukraine. At the same time, the main offer of local berries on the country’s market at the moment is strawberry from the central and southern regions. Due to an emergency in the western regions of the country and Transcarpathia, the supply of these products from there is practically not carried out.
If last week the average wholesale prices for strawberry in Ukraine did not fall below 35-70 UAH / kg ($ 1.31-2.62 / kg), then already this week they began to decline rapidly in the southern and central regions of the country. In particular, at the moment, producers of strawberries already offer this berry for sale at a price of 30-55 UAH / kg ($ 1.12-2.06 / kg), which is on average 17% cheaper than a week earlier.
Unfavorable weather conditions in the western regions of the country, where heavy rains continue, which have already led to the loss of a significant part of the crop of this berry, provide some support for prices. According to market operators, strawberry producers in Transcarpathia at the moment cannot begin to harvest this berry at all. As a result, the berry from the southern and central regions currently dominates in the domestic market of the country, while deliveries from Transcarpathia are not carried out.
It is worth noting that even after a negative price trend, the cost of strawberries in Ukraine today is on average 28% higher than at the end of June 2019.
