Price fluctuations on the Ukrainian cucumber market

This week, representatives of greenhouse farms in Ukraine are once again forced to reduce cucumber prices, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Just a week ago, this market segment experienced positive price trends, which led to an anticipated decline in trading activity. According to the producers, the downward price trend is triggered by a significant increase in the supply of greenhouse cucumbers, while buyer demand continued to decline gradually.

As of today, Ukrainian greenhouse farms are selling cucumbers at 40-55 UAH/kg ($0.97-1.33/kg), depending on the variety, quality, and volume of the offered batches. The newly set prices are on average 11% lower than at the end of the last working week.

It is worth noting that greenhouse farms could not avoid the price decline, even despite a significant reduction in competition from open-field cucumbers. Currently, this product is offered by a few farms that are selling the remaining batches of medium to low-quality vegetables.

Despite yet another decrease in wholesale prices, greenhouse cucumbers are presently sold at 150% higher than in the same period last year.
