According to the customs service of Moldova, about 7 000 tonnes of apples were exported from the country in November 2022. This is the lowest volume of November exports over the past five years. It was close to the current one only in 2020 – almost 8 000 tonnes (but then curbing supplies was a tactic, in the hope of active winter exports to the Russian market at a higher price). Exports in November 2021 were a record – 22 500 tonnes.
The main direction of supplies of Moldovan apples in November of this year is the CIS countries. However, representatives of farmers’ organizations believe that the situation in alternative markets is also not bad: shipments of almost 1 000 tonnes of apples to the markets of the Persian Gulf countries, and, most importantly, more than 600 tonnes to Romania. This is a good result for Moldovan exporters in November when there are still local apples on the Romanian market and more diverse high-quality apples from neighboring European countries.
Traders-exporters do not expect huge apple exports from Moldova in December. Most consumers in all markets switch to citrus and exotic fruits in the pre-New Year period. At the same time, suppliers do not rule out a gradual increase in shipments to export markets of “budget” apples.
