Growers of fruits and table grapes in Moldova fear an early start of the growing season due to abnormally warm weather

The high temperatures of the last week worry Moldovan farmers. The unusual weather of this period endangers a range of crops that can be affected.

This is reported by AgroExpert.md.

Temperature fluctuations can affect vineyards and orchards. In addition, a lack of snow can influence the harvest, especially after a dry year.

The hibernation of plants is still going well. However, fruit trees are among the most vulnerable to temperature fluctuations. If it is abnormally warm in the following days, there is a risk of an early start of vegetation.

According to experts, a plantation that entered the growing season in winter and then was affected by frost may dry out completely or suffer losses for several years.

Boris Boinchan, Acting Director of the Research Institute of Field Crops “Selection” from Balti: “The most important thing is how heat changes to cold or frost. If this happens suddenly, it is dangerous. If the transition is gradual, plants will restore the level of hardening sufficient to pass this critical temperature period.”

There was a temperature of up to 14 degrees in the Republic of Moldova last week.
