Greenhouse tomato production in Uzbekistan increased by 26% in 2022

The volume of greenhouse production in Uzbekistan increased by 11.1% in 2022, and the production of greenhouse tomatoes increased by 26% compared to 2021. At the same time, the share of tomatoes in the total greenhouse production increased by 8.5 percentage points, EastFruit experts report.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 301 000 tonnes of agricultural products were grown in the greenhouses of Uzbekistan in January-December 2022, of which 211 000 tonnes of tomatoes, i.e. 70.1% of the total greenhouse production.

For comparison, 271 000 tonnes of products were harvested in the greenhouses of Uzbekistan in 2021, of which 167 000 tonnes of tomatoes, that is, 61.6% of the total greenhouse production.

Thus, the share of tomatoes in the total greenhouse production increased from 61.6% to 70.1% in 2022.

According to the ministry, 3 157 farms and agricultural enterprises are currently engaged in greenhouse production in Uzbekistan. The total area of their greenhouses is 6 300 ha.

As of April 2022, the share of hydroponic greenhouses was 17%, and the rest was soil-based greenhouses.
