The Ukrainian market is currently experiencing a significant surge in the cost of garden strawberries, as highlighted by EastFruit’s analysts. Unseasonably cool weather across the primary strawberry-growing regions has hindered the swift maturation of the local crop, prompting growers to elevate their pricing to compensate for the delayed harvest.
Market insiders report that the availability of strawberries from domestic farms is notably scarce at present, granting Ukrainian cultivators the leverage to command premium prices. Presently, the market is witnessing the sale of premium strawberries ranging between 65-100 UAH/kg ($1.63-2.51/kg), marking an average increase of 27% compared to prices just a week prior.
It is also worth mentioning that the current average price point for strawberries in Ukraine is approximately 23% higher than it was during the same timeframe last year. Market experts anticipate a downward adjustment in prices as the volume of locally sourced strawberries begins to climb. Additionally, the influx of more affordable imported strawberries continues to exert downward pressure on the domestic market.
