Despite the price reduction, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are being sold at higher prices than last year

Currently in Ukraine, there is a trend towards a decrease in wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers, despite limited supply from local producers, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Producers themselves claim they are forced to make price concessions due to relatively low trade activity. Moreover, the quality of cucumbers is rapidly deteriorating, which also drives a price decline in this segment.

As a result, since the beginning of the current week, cucumber prices in the Ukrainian market have decreased on average by 11%. Today, these products are being sold at 90–125 UAH/kg ($2.14-$2.98/kg). For comparison, just a week ago, the maximum prices in this segment were up to 140 UAH/kg ($3.34/kg).

The main sales channels for local greenhouse producers today are retail networks. However, representatives of retail chains and wholesale companies have also significantly reduced their vegetable purchases this week, citing inactive consumer demand.

Nevertheless, despite a considerable price drop, today, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are being sold on average 27% higher than in the same period last year. Market operators note that the supply of these products in local greenhouses is very limited, and imports are unstable. It is also worth noting that most Ukrainian greenhouse producers plan to resume cucumber supplies closer to the end of February.
