Cucumber prices continue to rise in Ukraine

Cold weather across most of Ukraine has led to a significant reduction in the supply of greenhouse cucumbers on the market, resulting in a rapid increase in prices in this segment, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Prices are also being supported by the lack of competition from imports and the very high demand from local wholesale companies and retail chains.

According to daily monitoring data from the project, the cucumber season in Ukrainian greenhouses is nearing its end. Farms are currently cleaning out their greenhouses, so cucumbers are mainly offered in small wholesale quantities. It is also worth noting that the quality of cucumbers in the latest batches has significantly declined, but this does not prevent sellers from raising prices. On average, since the beginning of the current week, prices for this product have risen by 26%, and today these vegetables are being sold at 65-80 UAH/kg ($1.58-1.94/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the product batches offered.

Experts believe that this situation in the Ukrainian cucumber market may lead to importers starting to supply this product from foreign markets as early as next week. If this happens, prices for cucumbers from local greenhouses may stabilize under the pressure of more affordable imported products.
