Prices for tomatoes in Ukraine have already dropped below last year’s level

This week, the demand for greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market continued to decline rapidly, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Market operators report that trade in the tomato segment remained disappointing for Ukrainian traders, with large retail chains making most of the purchases, but in small batches to maintain product assortments. Additionally, the supply of vegetables on the market was more than sufficient due to increased imports from Turkey.

In these conditions, sellers were forced to lower prices for greenhouse tomatoes. As of today, imported vegetables from Turkey are being offered at 70-90 UAH/kg ($1.68-2.17/kg), which is, on average, 17% cheaper than at the end of the previous working week.

It is worth noting that tomatoes in Ukraine are now being sold on average 12% cheaper than at the end of March 2024. Market operators do not rule out the possibility that prices for this product will continue to decrease, as tomato supplies remain stable, but sales volumes leave much to be desired.
